Happy Birthday-Axolotl- a shaker card

A friend asked if I could make a card for her husband’s birthday. I had to think what do I know about the family. I know that they vacation a lot in Hawaii or at least they used to before Corvid. The first stamp that came to mind was Lawn Fawn’s, ‘ I like (a lotl).

I made the traditional shaker card but then I ran into trouble. The sequences would get caught behind the axolotl or behind the seaweed. I deconstructed it and started again, this time. I made a double panel. The embellishments are in their own panel which gives depth to the card as if you are viewing in it from a portal. I learned a couple of things. The layers need to dry before you shake the card. If you shake the card while it’s wet the sequence get glued to the side. Given that I need to mail the card ASAP, I moved the card. Just remember to let the glue set before moving the card.

Special Delivery

Today’s card features Lawn Fawn’s Special Delivery Stamp set and Magic Iris Birdhouse Add-on. I used the Large Slimline set but extended it so the length of the owl and box of bird plus the bird house would look portional. The bird house needed to be anchored and not floating in the school so I took the liberty and added grass and mushrooms.

The birdhouse itself is embossed with Hero Arts Gratitude Background. The focus the owl so the birdhouse did not need to be a distraction, yet the added background gave the birdhouse texture.

The card is for a really special person who just had their first child. We are sending this person lots of love. The hearts are from Simon Says Stamp Heart Breeze die cut. Using Wink of Stella, to add sparkle to each of the hearts. In addition, to add shine I used Glossy Accents on each of the hearts.
